Technology
Tornado RIB hulls are made using vacuum infusion technology. A combination of mat & stitched roving glass fibre is laid dry onto the mould. Vinyl ester resin is then introduced through the vacuum suction. This gives a much higher fibre-to-resin ratio resulting a stronger and lighter hull compare to traditional methods.
Tornado RIB Tubes are welded using our patented “Stepless” technology (Patent No.: ZL 2014 2 0614773.4). The computer controlled hot air welding process welds the fabric to form a continuous surface. Every seam is therefore as strong as the parent material. This greatly increases the strength and durability of the tube.
All Tornado RIBs tube are made from Polyurethane (PU) fabric. PU fabric has a much higher tensile strength, tearing strength, puncture resistance, coating adhesion & abrasion resistance compare other common RIB fabric such as Hypalon and PVC. It is a pre-requisite for SOLAS rescue RIBs and
recommended by U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Centre.
Polyurethane (PU) fabric facts:
- Operating temperature range from -50℃ to 75℃.
- Very long service life.
- Very high mechanical strength against wear and tear as well as point loads.
- High resistance to UV.
- Exceptional air-tightness.
- Rarely punctures.
- Easier to repair compared to Hypalon, can be hot air welded by hand held heat gun and return to work in five minutes..
- Resistant to most solvents like oil and petrol.
